Dr Annalie Basson

Dr Annalie Basson (PhD, M.Phys.T (research), B.Sc. Physiotherapy, OMT certificate) is a physiotherapist in private practice in Pretoria. She is a clinician, working in private practice for the past 39 years. She has a special interest in low back pain, neck pain, headaches and nerve-related disorders such as sciatica and neck and arm pain. She feels strongly about promoting evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes. She obtained her doctorate at the University of the Witwatersrand on “The effect of neural mobilisation on nerve-related neck and arm pain”.
She has been involved is post-graduate teaching since 1998. She has been an invited speaker and presented courses and papers nationally and internationally.
She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and serves as a reviewer for a number of journals. She has been involved in the Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy Group (now Neuro-Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Group) since 1988 and has also served as committee member for PainSA and the Pain Management Group. She was first treasurer and then president of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (2008 – 2016). Currently she is chair of the South African Society of Physiotherapists Continuing Professional Development Accreditation Panel.
